Easy Opening – Guideline

Within this project recommendations for developing consumer-friendly packaging should be evaluated and summarized in an IVLV-data sheet. This recommendation should contain design criteria influencing opening behavior of peelabe packaging. The project is based on the results of an already completed AiF-project (Easy Opening – Standardized testing method/Standard values).

Assessment of user-friendly opening forces depends on the package configuration (a. o. pull tab design, stability for the second hand, sealed seam design). A systematic representation of the effect of these design criteria on handling characteristics of packaging will provide optimization approaches in particular for packaging development. This may also help to reduce development time and numbers of iterative cycles.

A software tool for estimating the expected opening behaviour completes the project. The project is expected to start after a positive review in April 2010.
